A bit of news

So its been snowing
As predictable as tides I was drawn in like the rest of the image obsessed to tog myself up put my walking boots on and go take some photos in the snow. Apparently when it gets snowy is when the nation goes crazy and takes "millions of mediocre weather photos that bores the non camera folk. determined to break the mould I set out.

Shots are on my recently updated Flickr Account

ONLINE liked these images - many of my friends on facebook seem to taking up the holiday craze of perspective trick photography

TWIN ATLANTIC at the RESCUE ROOMS NOTTINGHAM

TWIN ATLANTIC In NOTTINGHAM TOWN can you shoot them Louise? yes please.

A Scottish alternative rock band from Glascow that's been doing pretty well over the last few years. The band has grown with support from Kerrang, NME and Radio 1, they have supported Biffy Clyro, The Subways and the Smashing pumpkins to name a few.

Just about made it to the gig so was a bit flustered on arriving but my camera was ready and round my neck before I even got out the car. Straight into the pit "3 SONGS NO FLASH"  The obvious love from the crowd calmed me pretty quickly. I had  YOU tubed the band the week before so had an idea of their songs, always a good idea as you can predict what the movements of the band might be. I am pretty new to this gig photography lark but having a love for music certainly helps and getting a feel for what might happen next allows you to have your camera in the right place or change your setting for a change of lights. I been starting to find this out for myself for example front man Sam McTrusty had a rhythm to how he rocked out with his guitar depending on the style of the song.
Watched this you tube only the other day several months after this gig. Made me happy as his top 5 tips sum up my approach so far and certainly how I aim to continue.
1-ANTICIPATION
2 - GET INVOLVED WITH LOCAL BANDS (tick - getting there NOTTINGHAM  if anyone else is up for a shoot just shout for fun for website material or for regional mag)
3- TAKE YOUR CAMERA TO FESTIVALS (wish I had at Glasto next time)
4- RAPPORT with the band research get to know etc etc ( early days has already landed me a few photo gigs).
5- EASIER TO APOLOGISE THAN TO ASK PERMISSION IE just take the shots someone will soon tell you if your not allowed if you wait to ask too late

Anyway here is a few from the gig

Love the pose and the back lighting

Just wish I had got a shot with his face in focus grrrrrrr and maybe a wider pan to include the crowd to the left. Pretty small pit so I would have needed to be actually on the stage with the lens I have don't think the band would have been too happy.

Bit of a rock star pose in these two shots

And that's how small the pit is.

Love the back lighting of his face one of those moments where I can see what photo I want but am praying to my camera God Nikon to see if I have got the shot, made me smile when I looked back. Thank Nikon I shoot on continuous.

A few crowd shoots hard to get without annoying everyone around you but really nice intimate venue wanted to get the atmosphere. Gigs are just as much about the band wanting the crowd as much as the crowd wanting the band.

Love how using rule of thirds the front man and the person in the crowds hands clapping together line up to make to central points of the picture.

Merchandise

So that's it very enjoyable gig glad I made it in time.

Plan for blog is to start adding some more links and references not only about learning photography but also the music scene as I find out about it. Nature shots still might feature here and there but might be a little on the back burner.
Will be aiming for a blog once a month maybe more if something exciting happens.

ITS NEARLY BEEN A YEAR SINCE LAST BLOG THIS IS WHY ...

So its been nearly a year since I last blogged but that has been for a very good reason.
I have been busy snapping for an online magazine called
which covers all sorts from night life to sports to gigs.
Testing my camera to limits in mostly quite dark conditions I now know my camera inside out but there is always more to learn.
The mag has given me great experience and opportunity so far here is just a taste of what i have been up to. Hopefully much more to come "Watch this space"
